The army updates their precedence of medals to be more in line with the other branches of the military
In this article, the army has decided to rank the Air Medal above the Purple Heart. It also lists all of the medals in the Army from most prestigious to least prestigious.

Mini Medal Set from Colonel Joseph Laughlin
These miniature medals represent the larger ones that were presented to Colonel Laughlin throughout his distinguished career
These miniature medals represent the hardwork, determination, bravery, and leadership that Colonel Laughlin displayed throughout his 30 year military career. The medals he earned in World War II were (in order of importance): the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Croix de Guerre. The real medals accrued by Colonel Laughlin hang in a decorative shadow box that is still kept by his widow, Audrey Laughlin.
